The Seeker: Finding Hope and Compassion in a Chaotic World featuring Sophfronia Scott

Dear Woman on Fire ~

With sprouting Spring flowers and more accessible vaccinations at hand, hope is in the air. Have you been missing it?

Hope is healing, reassuring, and motivating. It recharges our resiliency. But many have felt hopelessness over the last year. Sophronia Scott with DebbiePhilips

For the April podcast, I spoke with Sophfronia Scott, a woman who is a master of hope. Since she first joined our circle more than a decade ago, she has inspired our hope through the example of her compassionate heart.

Now she goes heart-to-heart with one of the great contemplative thinkers in her new book, The Seeker and the Monk: Everyday Conversations with Thomas Merton.

In our talk, Sophfronia tells us how she began an imagined mentorship with Merton, a Trappist monk who wrote extensively on spiritual and social issues before his death in 1968. Their fascinating “dialogue” ranges through universal themes of faith, nature, race, and so much more.

Sophfronia also shares how hope helped her to break free from a difficult childhood, survive tragedy, and become herself.

In the After Interview, I spoke with another of our favorite Women on Fire, artist Mary Lou Peters, who tells where her own seeking has led her.

Wishing you a beautiful Easter and early spring,

Love,
